To the majority of people, security camera systems are reserved for businesses and incredibly wealthy people that seem to exist only on television. While in the past that may have been true, technology is developing rapidly that has brought video surveillance systems to a price and availability within the average families grasp. Video surveillance is quickly becoming a standard part of a home security system.Â
Security cameras aren’t just cameras, however. A complete system will come with one or more cameras, a playback device, a monitor and possibly a motion sensor. You may also opt for the wireless system, which can be played right through your television, VCR or wireless adaptor.Â
The type of surveillance you would like will determine what kind of system you will need. If your intent is to prevent burglary and intrusions, you may choose an “overt†camera- one that is in obvious sight. This will let an intruder know he is being watched and potentially cause him to change his mind. If your security camera is to monitor housekeepers or nannies, the “covertâ€-hidden- camera (or some would call…nanny cam) may be the system for you. In either case, an offender of any sort can be positively identified and may receive harsher penalties for his or her crime.Â
A growing method of home security, especially for those families seeking covert monitoring, is the webcam. This is becoming a common “toy†for most people anyway, so its presence may not be conspicuous as a monitoring device. They can be set on motion triggers and send the videos right to you via cell phone, email or internet.Â
Placing a security system in your home is a necessity no matter your budget. Now, when purchasing or upgrading your system, adding a video surveillance system may be an option you’d like to consider.
