Video Surveillance…In Churches?

Even with extensive security measures being taken in public and private locations all over the country, there are still a few places that often get overlooked. One such place is your local church. You may not see a need for video surveillance, but consider the accessibility your church has. How many entryways are there? Do you have weekly activities or child care programs that need to be monitored? What about an outdoor area that needs surveillance? With the rise of vandalism against churches, this may be something you take into consideration as well.

After deciding what type of measures you’d like to take for your security system, you’ll need to find the cameras that suit each location. Decide if cameras will be outside and vulnerable to the weather and low light situations, or inside. If you’d like the cameras to be visible, then you need them to be overt; otherwise, look into covert- hidden- cameras.

If your church doesn’t have a large network of cameras or a need to monitor remotely, you may be able to use the basic software that comes with your security cameras and the usual monitor system. However, you also have the option of more advanced software for larger systems and remote viewing, using a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) for recording the images, and integrating the cameras directly into your PC.

Before you purchase a video surveillance system for your church, do plenty of research to find the best options. Be sure that the system meets all of your present security needs, with the option to expand with you as your church grows. You may want to hire someone to install your system as well, though some are relatively simple. Have someone prepared to maintain and monitor our system, and your church will soon be secure.
